Daily Report Day 2

For the first game of day 2 of the CEB Cup we had the Belgium team, Borgerhout Squirrels, facing off against the Bonn Capitals in Arrows Park. Both teams are coming off from impressive wins yesterday. The starting pitcher for the Borgerhout Squirrels is Luke Abets and for the Capitals it is Maurice Wilhelm. The Capitals was able to get on the board as soon as the game started. Eric Brenk logged the first run of the game in the 1st inning. The score remained 1-0 till the 3rd Inning. After the Borgerhout Squirrels allowed 6 runs and 4 hits  in the 3rd inning they decided to make a pitching change and brought in Jo Larrinaga Ocampo. Daniel Lamb-Hunt would have had a homer in the 5th but the Borgerhout Squirrels were saved by the fence in centerfield. At the end of the 5th inning the score is 9-0 with the Bonn Capitals in the lead. After a costly error made by the Capitals in the 6th inning, the Squirrels finally got on the board with Steven De Iannoy going home from 2nd. Sam Boermans had a strong hit down the foul line that brought Joannes Ochoa Blanco home. Borgerhout Squirrels had a strong 6th inning and shortened the lead. 9-3 is the score at the end of the 6th inning. In the bottom of the 7th, Capitals made a pitching change and put in Jan Jakub. Then Steven De Iannoy decided to slam a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 7th for the Squirrels. The Squirrels continue the comeback in the 7th when Yannick Gontier hit a single to bring 2 runners home. Borgerhout Squirrels impressive 6th and 7th inning they have shortened the Bonn Capitals lead by 1. Bonn Capitals got revenge against the Squirrels in the next inning with a 2-run homer from Kevin Van Meensel. The Capitals, Sascha Koch, was subbed in for pitcher in the bottom of the 8th. The score going into the 9th is 11-8 with the Capitals ahead. Borgerhout Squirrels was not able to pull off the comeback and the Capitals take home the win. Final score 11-8. 

Minsk and Olimpija 83 Karlovac was the 2nd game played in Arrows Park. Both teams are coming off from a loss on Day 1.  Minsk and Olimpija 83 Karlovac are both looking for a win to stay in the tournament. Minsk’s starting pitcher is Yauheni Kurhun and the starting pitcher for  Olimpija 83 Karlovac is Pavao Karin. Olimpija 83 Karlovac is the first to score from them walking Vlastim Arandelovic when the bases were loaded. This sent Branko Nenadic home. Minsk returned the favor by scoring 3 times in the bottom of the 1st. At the end of the 3rd inning the score was 3-1 with Minsk in the lead. Olyimpija 83 Karlovac scored on 4 hits in a row to make the score 3-5. A costly error made by Minsk caused Karlovac to score twice on one play. This making the score 3-7. Minsk was able to answer back but with only one run. Karlovac continued the strong hitting into the next inning and added 3 more runs. Including a 2-run homer by Jose Diaz. Minsk changed the pitchers at the end of the 5th and Ilya Sladzinski is the new pitcher. Minsk capitalized from the two errors from Karlovac and scored twice. Both teams scored once in the 6th inning. 7-11 is the score going into the 7th inning. Olimpija 83 Karlovac made 2 pitching changes in the 7th inning. Ivan Mitrovic was pitching in the beginning of the inning then after some tough pitching and allowing a run they let Benjamin Paulic go in. Slobodan Gales opened the 8th inning with a homer to widened the lead for Olimpija 83 Karlovac. Minsk made a change in the pitchers and added Mikhail Kechko to the mound. Justin Olic is the new pitcher for Olimpija 83 Karlovac in the end of the 8th inning. After a 4-run inning Minsk was able to come back and only be down by 1. Minsk with 12 runs while Olimpija 83 Karlovac has 13 runs going into the 9th inning. Denis Leonov is in for Minsk to close out the game. With a single from Phillip Smith; he was able to bring Jose Diaz home. Right after that hit, Vlastim Arandelovic nailed a double and brought in 2 more runs. The pressure is now on Minsk as they are down by 4 runs with just one inning left. Minsk fought hard to come back and tie the game but one run in the 9th was not good enough.  Olimpija 83 Karlovac pulled away and got the win. Final score 13-16. 

The other game that was going on at the same time was the Therwil Flyers vs Biotechkomanda KNTU. This game was played in Frydek-Mistek. Both teams are also coming off from a loss as well. Takanobu Oshima is the starting pitcher for the Flyers, while Dymtro Limarenko is the starting pitcher for Biotechkomanda KNTU. Flyers were the first to score from a double by Takanobu Oshima that brought Adrian Kaufmann home. After Biotechkomanda KNTU walked two more players, Dymtro Limarenko was taken out of the game in the first inning.  To replace him was Vitalii Chukhrii. The first homer of the game was hit by Takanobu Oshima  in the bottom of the 3rd. The Flyers were able to score again in the 5th inning. The score going into the 6th is 3-0. Biotechkomanda KNTU answered back with 2 runs of there own in the 6th inning. Illia Velikii for Biotechkomanda KNTU is the first to score for the team.  Later in the inning, Oleksandr Mamontov single brought in Denys Brechko to home. The score at the end of the 6th is 3-2 with the Flyers in the lead. Biotechkomanda KNTU takes the lead in the 7th inning by a double from Roman Boiko that sent Velikii and Sotiriadi home. They almost had another run except Boiko got out at home plate. Biotechkomanda KNTU improved the lead by adding 4 more runs in the 8th inning. The Flyers decided to make a pitching change and Stefan Koller is the new pitcher. Right after the pitching change Koller threw a wild pitch and Velikii scored giving Biotechkomanda KNTU a 5-run inning.  The Flyers came back with a run of there own. Biotechkomanda KNTU has the lead against the Therwil Flyers with 9 runs to 4 runs. David Castillo hit a 2-run homer for the Flyers to shorten Biotechkomanda KNTU’s lead. Right after the home run Biotechkomanda KNTU put in Maksym Lisnytskyi to close the game. His first pitch did not go how he wanted. Sven Leeman nailed a home run for the Flyers to make the score 7-9. The Flyers was not able to score 2 more runs to tie the game. Biotechkomanda KNTU wins the game 7-9. 

The Ostrava Arrows and Templiers Senart had the last game of day 2 in Arrows Park. Both teams are coming off from a high scoring game. They both look to stay on the attack and score a ton of runs just like they did yesterday. The Arrows starting pitcher is Tomas Ondra and for the Senart it is Raudelin Legra Perez. Terrell Joyce nailed a home run with his first time at bat. Right after that Tomas Junec was hit by a pitch, but he did not stay on base long. Michael Vykoukal hammers in a 2-run homer. At the end of the 1st, the Arrows has a demanding lead of 3-0. The Arrows added in another run in the 2nd inning with a Jakub Kubica single and a Anthony Cipolla run to home. After an impressive defensive stand including a double play; the Arrows were able to keep Templiers Senart scoreless after 4 innings. Terrell Joyce almost had his second home run of the day but instead it was a ground-rule double.   The Arrows scored 2 more runs in the 5th inning including a single by Tomas Junec that brought Jakub Malik home and a score from Joyce thanks to Michael Vykoukal. After some impressive pitching by Ondra, he was able to keep Senart scoreless even with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Arrows made the first pitching change in the 7th inning with Marko Vykoukal coming in to pitch. Michael Vykoukal had an impressive tag on Senart’s Raudelin Legra Perez at home plate. With that tag the Arrows were able to keep Senart scoreless going into the 8th inning. Joyce hammered his 2nd home run of the game over the fence in centerfield. The Arrows are in the lead by 7 runs going into the 8th. Even after some impressive hitting from the Templiers Senart, they were still not able to score in the 8th. Senart made a pitching change in the 8th  with Jorge Hereaud being the new pitcher. The Arrows decided to put in Christopher Burkholder in as pitcher to close the game out. Even though Templiers Senart committed no error in the game, they just was not able to hit the ball as good as they did yesterday.  The Arrows were able to shutout Senart. Final Score 7-0. 

The second day of the CEB Cup was filled with some high scoring games. After two days of tournament play, only two teams remain undefeated and they are the Bonn Capitals and Ostrava Arrows.
