Baseball - CEB CUP 2018

Daily report day 1

 In the first game of the CEB Cup we had the German team, Bonn Capitals, going against the Switzerland team, Therwil Flyers. The starting pitcher for the Flyers is Matt Watson and for the Capitals is Riley Barr. After a good attack from the Capitals on the bottom of the second they were the first ones to get on the board from a hit from Christopher Goebel that allowed Vincent Ahrens to score.  The exact same thing happens again in the bottom of the 4th and the Capitals have a 2-0 lead. After 5 innings the Capitals pitcher ,Matt Watson, has a no-hitter. The Capitals scored again after a hit by Adrian Stommel to send Danny Lankhorst home from 2nd. Matt Watson dream of a perfect game was ended in the top of the 6th by a single from Adrian Kaufmann. The Capitals add 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th to make the score 5-0. Martin Novak came in for pitcher for the Flyers at the start of the 8th inning. After a 4-run homer by Capitals, Christopher Goebel, in the bottom of the 7th, the umpires ended the game early. Final score 11-0

In the second game in Arrows Park the Templiers Senart played against Minsk.  The starting pitcher for Senart is Robert Palencia and for Minsk it is Denis Leonov. Senart is the first one to score and it’s in the top of the 2nd. The scorer scored off of an error made by Minsk.  Senart scores again from having the bases loaded and Minsk walking Theo Brelle. This making Senart in the lead by 2. Senart was able to score 5 more times including a hit by Felix Brown that brought three runners in. This making the score at the end of the 2nd 7-0. Minsk made a pitcher change at the start of the 3rd inning and brought in Mikhail Kechko. Minsk made another change for the pitcher and brought in Artsiom Rudzinski. Minsk allowed 3 more runs and made the score 10-0 with Senart in the lead. After another 7-run inning, Senart is in the lead 17-0. Minsk scores in the top of the 5th by a single from Dzmitry Dziamyanenka that brought in Kiryl Kazlouski. The game ended in the 5th inning and the final score is 17-1 with Templiers Senart taking the win. 

The Biotechkomanda KNTU and Borgerhout Squirrels played against each other in Frydek-Mistek. The starting pitcher for Biotechkomanda KNTU is Sergii Shtapura and for Borgerhout Squirrels is Ken Van Den Brandon. The Squirrels are the first to score due to an error in the 1st inning. 

Biotechkomanda KNTU was able to even up the score by hitting a homer at the start of the 5th. Borgerhout retaliated and hit a homer of there own and took the lead again. Borgerhout Squirrels makes a pitching change in the bottom of the 7th and brings in Romu Sanchez Oviedo.  Biotechkomanda KNTU made  a pitching change in the 9th inning and brought in Heorgii Hvrytishvili. The Squirrels made the gap bigger from a hit by Steven De Iannoy that brought in a run to make the score 3-1. The Borgerhout Squirrels Sam Boermans nails a 3-run homer that puts the pressure on  Biotechkomanda KNTU as the score is now 6-1. Biotechkomanda KNTU was not able to come back and the final score is 6-1. 

To finally end the first day of tournament play we have the Croatian team Olimpija 83 Karlovac going against the Ostrava Arrows! The starting pitcher for Karlovac is Jose Diaz and for the Arrows it is Ondrej Satoria. Arrows got on the board early in the first inning with a Terrel Joyce single to bring in Anthony Cipolla from third. Karlovac was not able to even up the score at the end of the 1st. The score is 1-0 with the Arrows in the lead. After some impressing hitting and running in the 2nd inning by the Arrows they pushed the lead to 3-0. Olimpija 83 Karlovac was close to getting a run in the bottom of the second but catcher, Michael Vykoukal had other plans for Karlovac and impressively tagged out the runner heading towards home. The Arrows made a pitching change in the 4th and put in Matej Satoria. Olimpija 83 Karlovac made a pitching change as well in the next inning. They put in Ivan Mitrovic to replace Jose Diaz. With some good pitches he was able to keep the Arrows Scoreless in the 5th and the 6th. The Arrows decided to make another pitching change in the 6th inning. They put in Daniel Cerny to possibly close the game out. Olimpija 83 Karlovac has also decide to put a new pitcher in, Alen Vukmirovic. Terrel Joyce nailed a 2-run homer in the 7th for the Arrows to make the score 13-0.  After allowing 8 runs in the 7th and with the bases being loaded Karlovac decided to make another pitching change and they put it in Benjamin Paulic. Even with a 14-0 lead the Ostrava Arrows decided to change pitchers and put in Boris Bokaj. The Arrows was able to end the game in the 8th inning and the final score was 14-0

Great first day of tournaments. Hopefully we will see everybody back tomorrow for day 2 of tournament play.
